MegazoneCloud discusses expansion plans for quantum computing in Asia market with IonQ

AI·cloud specialist Megazone Cloud (CEO Yom Dong-hoon) has joined forces with IonQ, a leading quantum computing company in the United States, to explore ways to expand the quantum computing market centered on the Asia region.

The strategic meeting held on the 17th at Megazone Cloud's Seoul Yeoksam-dong liaison office was attended by key executives from both companies, including Megazone Cloud Board Chairman Lee Joo-wan and CEO Yom Dong-hoon, as well as IonQ Board Chairman and Executive Chair Peter Chapman and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Thomas Kramer.

During the meeting, both companies focused on discussing areas where they could cooperate in relation to the dissemination of quantum computing technology and services, and exchanged views on the possibility of collaboration and utilization methods in the Korean and Asian markets based on IonQ's quantum computing technology.

Megazone Cloud Board Chairman Lee Joo-wan said, "Based on our competitive advantage in the domestic and Asian cloud markets, we plan to expand our business into the cloud service sector based on quantum computing, and IonQ is expected to be a very promising strategic partner. We will actively respond to the growing demand for quantum cloud and proactively secure market opportunities."

Both companies plan to cooperate so that various technologies such as IonQ's quantum AI, quantum machine learning, quantum chemistry, and optimization algorithms can be applied to industrial sites, and Megazone Cloud plans to actively respond to domestic and international corporate needs based on its extensive customer network.

The two companies already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strategic cooperation in the quantum computing field in September 2023, and have continued regular discussions since then. At this CEO-level meeting, both companies exchanged broad views on various topics including joint business models, technology cooperation directions, and domestic and international customer response strategies, further solidifying their cooperative relationship.

Currently, Megazone Cloud is collaborating with global quantum computing service providers including IonQ to focus on the introduction and dissemination of quantum computing-based cloud services for domestic companies and research institutions. This cooperation is expected to be an important opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic quantum ecosystem as well as strengthen a leading position in the Asian market.
