MegazoneCloud Selected as Joint Research Institution for 'Quantum Computing Service and Utilization System Construction' Project

• Introduction of IonQ's 100-qubit quantum computer 'Tempo'… Establishing foundation for integrated quantum-supercomputing service

Megazone Cloud (CEO Yom Dong-hoon), a leading AI and cloud company, has been selected as a co-research performing institution for the 'Quantum Computing Service and Utilization System Construction' project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea. This project aims to create a national foundation for quantum computing utilization and establish a hybrid computing service system that integrates supercomputing and quantum computing.

In this project, KISTI participates as the lead research performing institution, Megazone Cloud as a co-research performing institution, and SDT, Sookmyung Women's University, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), and Kumoh National Institute of Technology participate as commissioned research institutions.

In particular, through this project, IonQ's 'Tempo' (100-qubit class), a world-class ion trap quantum computer, will be introduced domestically and will be installed at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). Ion trap quantum computers can achieve high stability and accuracy by precisely controlling ions suspended in an electric field.

With the introduction of ion trap quantum computers, Korea's first ultra-high-performance quantum computing infrastructure will begin full operation, and a research ecosystem centered on quantum technology demonstration and utilization is expected to be created across industry, academia, and research institutions. Additionally, through the development of integration technology for supercomputing and quantum computing, which is a global technology trend, it is expected to serve as an opportunity to elevate Korea's quantum computing service level to the next stage.

Megazone Cloud will also implement various programs to accelerate industrial expansion and practical application of quantum computing technology through this project. First, it plans to regularly hold educational programs and specialized seminars to help universities, research institutions, and industry professionals understand quantum computing. Through this, it will raise the technology adoption rate across industries and support the cultivation of next-generation talent.

Additionally, through practice-oriented hackathons and workshops, participants will be provided with hands-on experience in designing and operating quantum algorithms directly, with plans to cultivate specialized professionals with practical capabilities. Along with this, through customized consulting services reflecting industry needs, companies will be supported in establishing concrete strategies for how to apply quantum technology to their business problems.

These activities are expected to serve as a strategic turning point that further expands contact points with domestic universities, research institutions, and industries, while promoting practical application of quantum technology.
