ZIGBANG

About Us

ZIGBANG was established in 2011 and is a company that operates a real estate item search service. As of 2021, it has 180 employees. ZIGBANG is a mobile/online application designed to help users find real estate items, with a focus on officetel, one-room flats, and two-room flats, which are in high demand among those in their 20s and 30s. ZIGBANG accounts for approximately 62% of the real estate application market.

Challenge

  • The company faced challenges in getting full customer support to solve technical problems when operating the infrastructure on the initial Korea cloud service
  • Lack of technical knowledge in managing a database infrastructure with high availability, such as setting up MySQL master-slave data replication
  • The need to support the operation and maintenance of the application database
  • The need for an infrastructure equipped with high availability, scalability, and stability to accommodate increasing user demand
  • The need to reduce infrastructure costs that increase with initial capital investment and the number of application downloads
  • After analyzing and comparing available infrastructure services, it was determined that only AWS’s scalability, availability, database performance, and pay-as-you-go charging model can meet all of ZIGBANG’s requirements.

Our Role

  • Amazon EC2 instances, Auto Scaling, and Elastic Load Balancing were used.
  • Amazon SQS was used to trace and process all transactions, even when the internal database has issues. Additional business logic was created to sequentially queue all transactions and offload the database, allowing batch processing.
  • AWS Elastic Beanstalk was used to handle infrastructure functions such as capacity provisioning, load balancing, auto-sizing, and application status monitoring.
  • Amazon RDS was used to operate and expand the relational database in the AWS cloud.
  • Amazon S3 was used to store user information and relevant real estate agency data.

Outcomes

Achieving 5 million downloads and 29 million cumulative downloads in 4 years from release

  • Providing agility and scalability required for taking up the Korea real estate search market with AWS infrastructure and securing three times more downloads than the competition’s service

Minimizing Costs and Risks

  • ZIGBANG minimized costs by focusing on maintenance instead of infrastructure investment, and also minimized risks during the initial development stage.

Operating with 99.999% Availability

  • Given the fact that ZIGBANG’s users are highly sensitive to service downtime, AWS’s excellent stability, performance, and ease of management have played a crucial role in strengthening ZIGBANG’s leading position in the Korean market.
